Teaching the CFAR Course for Africa

An online course for experienced responders, health workers and community educators who will teach the CFAR course.  It is a course about teaching, not a clinical course.  You are expected to be competent in the clinical content already; here you will learn how to pass that competence on to others safely, consistently and in a way that suits the communities you serve.

How the course works

Each week

  • Work through the lessons for the unit at your own pace.  Mark each one complete as you go.
  • Join the 90 minute live webinar.
  • Complete the activities and the self check quiz.
  • Write your reflective log entry.
  • Prepare the evidence for the unit assessment.

If your connection is poor

  • Every page is light and loads quickly.  Once a page has loaded you can read it offline.
  • You may join webinars by audio only; a recording and summary notes are shared the same day.
  • Assessment evidence may be sent as photographs of handwritten work or as voice notes.
  • The full course handbook can be downloaded from the Resources page.

Assessment

You will build a portfolio of evidence across the six weeks.  Each unit has one main assessment task, and your reflective log runs through the whole course.  Each unit is judged as Achieved or Not Yet Achieved, and every assessment criterion must be met.  Where a written task is set, a recorded spoken account of equivalent length is accepted unless stated otherwise.

Work judged Not Yet Achieved receives written feedback and may be resubmitted once within four weeks.  Before teaching the CFAR course independently, new tutors co teach at least one full course with an experienced tutor and are observed during their first year.

Status of this course. This course is designed for delivery by the programme.  It is not, in its current form, a regulated qualification.
